CLACKAMAS, Ore. – Columbia River anglers between Bonneville Dam and the Oregon/Washington border will have an additional week to catch spring chinook under an extended season adopted by fishery managers from Oregon and Washington.

Under the extension, the spring season will continue through Sunday May 1 above Bonneville dam. The season was originally scheduled to close on April 24.

The extension was approved based on harvest estimates that projected a harvest of less than 200 spring chinook through April 24, compared to a harvest guideline of 1,000 fish

“Passage at Bonneville appears to be late this year and river conditions have not been conducive to fishing,” said Chris Kern, assistant fisheries manager of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Ocean Salmon and Columbia River Program.

The daily bag limit in this area is two adipose fin-clipped adult salmon or steelhead in combination, and up to five adipose fin-clipped jack salmon per day.

Angling for salmon and steelhead from a boat between Bonneville Dam and the Tower Island power lines, approximately six miles down stream from The Dalles Dam, is prohibited. However, bank angling is allowed in this area.
