Construction of this facility began in 1924 and production started in 1925 by the state of Oregon. Various renovations have taken place with the most recent being done by the Restoration and Enhancement Program. The purpose of this facility is to enhance Spring Chinook, Fall Chinook, Winter Steelhead, and Summer Steelhead populations for various coastal streams. The facility is used for adult collection, egg incubation and for rearing of Spring Chinook, Fall Chinook, Winter Steelhead, and Summer Steelhead.

Best time to visit: June - March for adult chinook salmon and steelhead.

Fish raised: Salmon and steelhead and trophy sized Rainbow trout.

What to see and do

Adult steelhead and Chinook salmon are available for viewing in the holding ponds from July trough February. Self guided tours are welcome from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Group tours should be pre-arranged by calling the phone number below.

Nearby: Hebo Lake offers fishing and camping opportunities. Fishing, crabbing and clamming in the local rivers and bays is very popular. The “Three Capes scenic drive” along the coast provides spectacular views and hiking opportunities. Mount Hebo, located 8 miles from the hatchery, provides panoramic views of several coastal communities and the Pacific Ocean. Visitors can also view eagles, ospreys, herons, cormorants and mergansers in the surrounding area.
