LA GRANDE, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a Family Fishing event Saturday, May 12 at Peach Pond on the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area near La Grande from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
ODFW will provide loaner fishing rods, reels, and will have bait, bobber kits and information about additional fishing opportunities at the event. Staff and volunteers also will be on hand to answer questions and help participants hone their fishing skills.
“This is a great opportunity for families to discover a new outdoor activity they can enjoy together,” said Tim Bailey, ODFW fish biologist in La Grande.
Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers ages 13 and under can fish for free while those 14-17 will need to have a $9 juvenile angling license available at ODFW field stations and license outlets. Licenses will not be sold on site the day of the event.
The parking fee normally assessed at Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area will be waived on Saturday only for participants in the Family Fishing event.
To get to Peach Pond from La Grande, take Highway 203 south toward Union. After 5.7 miles turn left onto Peach Rd., just past Hot Lake. Travel 0.9 miles to the pond on the left.
The event is part of ODFW’s Family Fishing Program, designed to introduce families to the fun of fishing. For more information about the event at Peach Pond, call Tim Bailey at (541)962-1829. For a list of other Family Fishing Events throughout the state, visit the ODFW web site.
