Requesting a Duplicate Hunter Ed Card

How much do duplicate hunter education cards cost?

For applicants under the age of 18, duplicate cards are free. For applicants 18 years of age and above, the fee is $10.00

What if I only need my number and not a replacement card?

All applicants will be sent a new replacement card whether they only need their number or not. Numbers will not be provided to those 18 years of age and older until payment has been received.

How can duplicate hunter education cards be requested?

Duplicate cards can be requested by submitting a completed Duplicate Hunter Education Card Request Form (pdf) by mail (ODFW, ATTN: Hunter Education Duplicate, 4034 Fairview Industrial Dr. SE, Salem, OR 97302), fax (503-947-6009) or in person at any ODFW office that sells licenses.

How do I pay for a duplicate hunter education card?

Credit Card: Fax a completed Duplicate Hunter Education Card Request Form to FAX: 503-947-6009 or e-mail a scanned form with signature to odfw.info@state.or.us . Once a request has been received by Hunter Ed staff, it will take approximately three weeks for you to receive a duplicate card in the mail. If a record cannot be found, a payment will not be processed and your credit card will not be charged. Notification will be sent if a record cannot be found.

Cash, check, or money order: If you choose to request a duplicate card with cash, check, or money order complete a Request Form and send payment to: (ODFW, ATTN: Hunter Education Duplicate, 4034 Fairview Industrial Dr. SE, Salem, OR 97302), or in person at any ODFW office that sells licenses. For walk-in requests, we cannot guarantee that staff will be available to process the request immediately. Be prepared to leave a completed Request Form and to receive a follow up call by ODFW staff once the record has been located. Payment will be processed at the time the record is found. If payment is sent in the mail and a record cannot be found, a refund may take up to 8-10 weeks.

What information will I need to provide?

You will need to provide your name at the time you took the course, date of birth, daytime contact information and current mailing address. Old records can be challenging to find, so the more information that you can provide on the course that you took, such as city and the name of your instructor, the better.

How long will it take to receive my duplicate hunter education card?

You can normally expect to receive your duplicate card within three weeks of submitting your request. However, some records are more difficult to track down and may take longer to find.

What happens if my hunter education records can not be found?

If your hunter education records can not be found you must re-take the course in order to receive a hunter education certificate.

I’m taking my son/daughter hunting this weekend and can not find their hunter education card. What can I do?

If your child’s hunter education certification is printed on his/her hunting license, they do not need to carry their hunter education certification. While many hunter education records have been entered into our licensing system, not all have been. If your child’s hunter education certification number does not appear on his/her license, they will need to request a duplicate hunter education certificate prior to their hunt.

We make every effort to assist Oregon’s young hunters prepare for their hunts, but staffing levels often preclude us from being able to expedite duplicate card requests. Please plan accordingly and request your child’s duplicate hunter education card at least one month prior to their hunt.

I’m leaving for an out-of-state hunt tomorrow and can’t find my hunter education card; what can I do?

Most states require all hunters to carry proof of hunter education certification, not just youth hunters as in Oregon. We make every effort to assist Oregon hunters heading out of state, but staffing levels often preclude us from being able to expedite duplicate card requests. Please plan accordingly and request your duplicate hunter education card at least one month prior to leaving for your hunt.
